Virtual Professional Development

How the hell do you lead a virtual session of professional development? Especially when it’s implied the session should be on a specific skill, like using Canvas. Demoing anything is iffy when it’s a live audience. The questions are endless and people move at different paces. I’ve been teaching computer classes long enough to know that you keep demos to a minimum so you can circulate the room and help people with individual issues.

So, if you try to mimic that virtually, that means creating videos and documents to show people what to do. That’s not any different than the face-to-face sessions, so no problem. The issue is with circulating the room. Presenting screens is the only answer, but nuts to do with that many people. I guess my best bet is to just open a Meet and let people drop in with questions. But will administration be OK with that? I wonder if they even care at this point. Offering the PD is a good thing as there are people who need help with these tools. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into some overly bureaucratic nonsense.
